Psoriasis Diet

If you’ve ever had psoriasis, you know how irritating this skin condition can be. The itchy flaky skin is one thing, but the look of fear in others who don’t know what it is, can be even worse. It’s an especially hard condition for children and teens to handle because of the cosmetic effects it has on the arms, elbows, knees and hands. In recent years, doctors and medical experts have found that a psoriasis diet can be helpful in managing this disorder.

Some of the criteria of a psoriasis diet are plans that are rich in vegetables and fruits and low in animal proteins. Of the animal proteins that are good candidates for inclusion in a psoriasis diet are oily fish such as salmon, mackerel and sardines. It is suggested that 150 grams a day be eaten and it’s been shown in tests to reduce the amount of steroidal cream that is needed to be used on the affected areas. The key ingredient that helps psoriasis is the Omega 3 oils and it can also be found in carrots, apricots, mangoes and kale. Eating these foods also helps a person from contracting psoriasis in the first place.

Flax seeds and flax seed oils are another ingredient that should be included in a psoriasis diet. Whether you want to sprinkle them in yogurt, over your cereal or include them in your daily dose of oatmeal, these seeds are a valuable source of Omega 3 oils and possess important inflammatory agents that help sooth the psoriasis flare ups.
